Pat Metheny's guitar riffs to jazz up ECC stage
The Pat Metheny Trio will heat up the Elgin Community College Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre on Saturday when the Grammy Award-winning jazz guitarist takes the stage, with musicians Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez, to open the college's 2007-08 CenterStage season.
One of the most successful and critically acclaimed jazz musicians to come to prominence in the 1970s and '80s, Metheny's style incorporates elements of progressive and contemporary jazz, post-bop, jazz-rock fusion and folk-jazz.
Over the course of more than 25 years as a recording artist, Metheny has released album after album, each one brilliantly documenting another aspect of his unique musical journey.
Metheny has participated in just about every avenue of music-making regardless of stylistic boundaries. He has created an impressive body of work that includes a series of highly influential trio recordings, award-winning solo albums, scores for hit movies and duets with major artists.
Metheny's constant redefinition of the jazz genre continues with his Pat Metheny Trio with McBride, widely considered to be one of the best bassists of his era; and Sanchez, one of the most respected drummers of his generation.
