D-C homecoming parade set for today

In honor of the 25th anniversary of Dundee-Crown High School, the school will be holding a homecoming parade through downtown Dundee today at 2 p.m.

The parade will begin on Route 72 and 2nd Street in West Dundee and will move East on Rt. 72.

Grappler registration: The Kane County Grappler wrestling team will be starting its second season as an IKWF wrestling program.

The upcoming registration date will be today at the Bartlett Library from 1-4 p.m. with another on October 20, from 10 a.m. 1 p.m. at South Elgin and Elgin high schools means that the new season is just around the corner.

Last year in the inaugural season the Grapplers had 40 competitors on their team with two state qualifiers and one individual placing fifth in the state. With both state qualifiers returning to the Grapplers' lineup this season and the vast improvements made by the rest of the team last season the coaching staff is eager to see the young wrestlers hit the mats this November. Judson 2nd Annual Illinois Team USA Academy: Judson University will be hosting the 2nd Annual Illinois Team USA Academy for girls and boys grades 6-8 today, October 14, 21 and 28 from 4-5:45 p.m.

The Hitting Zone baseball/ softball hitting seminar: The Hitting Zone in Bartlett will be holding a free one-hour hitting seminar on Sunday, October 14 at 4 p.m. for players ages 8-14. To reserve a seat, call (630) 289-9663.

The Hitting Zone welcomes instructor Tom Siebert, a hitting and catching baseball instructor. Siebert has spent the last 10 years as a professional baseball instructor after playing his collegiate baseball at Mesa Community College. Having participated in several professional tryout camps, Siebert has instructed at the San Diego Baseball School, Baseball Factory, Team One and Doyle Baseball School. In addition to participating in various professional spring training workouts as a bullpen catcher and batting practice pitcher, Siebert has been employed in a part-time capacity with the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners as a professional scout.

The Hitting Zone also welcomes instructor Sandy Short (hitting and catching softball instructor) who broke six single season hitting records (home runs, doubles, RBI, total bases, batting average, slugging percentage) her freshman year at Eastern Illinois University. She earned Midwest All-Region honors in 2004, and ended her career at EIU as the program's all-time leading home run hitter and held career records for RBI and total bases while also finishing ranked among the all-time leaders in doubles. As a catcher, Short earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 2005 and 2006.
