Floyd: Piniella deserves credit, not blame

Cubs right fielder Cliff Floyd had some words Saturday night for anybody who wanted to blame manger Lou Piniella for his tactics in Game 1 of the National League division series.Piniella pulled ace pitcher Carlos Zambrano after 6 innings and 85 pitches, saving him for a possible Game 4. There won't be a Game 4 because the Arizona Diamondbacks swept the Cubs out of the series in three."They can blame him; they can blame him all they want," Floyd said after Saturday's 5-1 loss. "Lou was there for us when we didn't know what direction it was headed in. For me, he gave me an opportunity to come here and help this club. "He kept us together, kept us as one. That's all that matters."On the subject of the second-guessing, Zambrano said again that he had no problem with Piniella lifting him for Carlos Marmol, who gave up what proved to be the winning 2 runs last Wednesday as the D'backs won 3-1 at Chase Field."It's not my decision," Zambrano said. "It's his decision. I've never questioned a manager. He's the one that has the decision to bring somebody in, to take somebody out. I never question those decisions."He's the manager. He was good for us all year long. If he made a mistake when I was pitching the first game, I don't know. He has to trust his bullpen, and so far, he has been doing a good job with our bullpen."
