Say goodbye to 7-digit dialing in DuPage Co.
Today, you'll have to say goodbye to dialing your 630 friend from your 630 number using only seven digits.
It's the day that a new "overlay" area code -- 331 -- begins being used in the 630 district. That means everyone will have to dial 1 plus 630 plus the next seven numbers.
If you dial only seven, you'll get a recorded message rather than the person you're trying to reach.
The reason is that the 630 area code reached its limit in June. The area includes most of DuPage and parts of Cook, Kane, Kendall and Will counties.
