Too much clout for one teenager

As a taxpayer in High School District 214 since 1959, I was surprised to see that a 14-year-old student at Buffalo Grove High School could rule on what should or shouldn't be included in homecoming ceremonies. I expected that these decisions would be made by school officials or more responsible people.

No one is insisting that Miss Sherman has to participate in singing "God Bless America" -- she has every right to remain silent, but no right to rule for everyone else.

As I recall, "God Bless America" was very appropriate for 9/11, but not for homecoming at Buffalo Grove High School?

How soon we all forget!
