One-day festival offers look at Bensenville's early days
Time will turn back today in Bensenville. Specifically, about 100 years.
The Bensenville Park District is hosting its annual Heritage Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fischer Farm, 16W680 Grand Ave.
Sponsored by the park district and the Bensenville Arts Council, the family event celebrates the arrival of fall. It also focuses on local life in the 1800s to the early 1900s.
"It's one of our bigger festivals," said Tania Rodriguez, assistant to the director at the park district. "We try to highlight the Fischers' farm. The Fischers were part of that era."
In recent years, the park district has restored the 1836 cabin, hen house and garage where the Fischers, one of Bensenville's oldest families, lived.
Visitors will be able to take a tour bus to their old cabin on Church Road. Civil War historians are a new feature this year.
The event, which generally attracts about 200 people, includes pony rides, a giant pumpkin moonwalk, an inflatable maze, face painters, balloon artists and a visit from the costumed characters called Those Funny Little People.
Other features are a petting zoo, crafters and a live country band. Pumpkins will be on sale for $1.
A concession area will be provided by White Pines Club Room restaurant.
