Sick of TBS's Cubs coverage? WGN trying to sync audio

Cubs fans upset by the TBS Broadcast of the National League Division series, now have an alternative audio option.

WGN 720-AM announced Thursday that it would delay its broadcast of Game 2 by several seconds in order to come closer to the signal received by TBS.

While the delay will improve the proximity of the radio and TV broadcasts, it is impossible to match the audio for all viewers. The time that TBS's signal reaches each viewer can vary due to the variety of methods of receiving the channel.

"Even though we won't be in perfect 'sync' tonight, we are attempting to better serve our listeners by reducing the lag time between WGN Radio's real-time broadcast and the cable/satellite delay," station program director Bob Shomper said. "If we are successful, we will also attempt to delay WGN Radio's audio for the next playoff game at Arizona, which would be Game Five (if necessary) on Tuesday."

WGN Radio will continue its policy to broadcast the Cubs' home games in real time throughout the playoffs, so fans can continue to bring their radios to Wrigley Field. The series continues Saturday at Wrigley and Sunday as well, if the Cubs win tonight or Saturday.

"We know there will be more TV viewers than those fans who attend the games at Wrigley Field," Shomper said. "However, we feel it's unfair to penalize loyal Cubs fans who attended the games and brought their radios throughout the season, because the Cubs made the playoffs."

Tonight's contest between the Cubs and Arizona Cardinals begins at 9:07 p.m.
