The grass is always bluer

Putting the Cubs logo on his front lawn just seemed natural to Bill Meyer of Lake in the Hills.

After all, he is a true lifelong fan -- he was born on the day of the most recent Cubs no-hitter (Sept. 2, 1972, when Milt Pappas mowed down the San Diego Padres) as his dad sat outside the delivery room where former Cub center fielder Rick Monday also was waiting.

"I was born into it," Meyer said.

Believe it or not, he's also a White Sox fan and had Sox season tickets until a couple of years ago.

There's no conflict, he notes. "I'm a baseball fan." Credit Meyer with cutting the logo into his lawn.

He says to credit a neighbor with suggesting he color it in. Ever since, his street has seen plenty of action. "It's been 99 years too long," Meyer said.
