Campton Hills sets fees for building permits
Campton Hills trustees this week adopted building permit fees ranging from $20 to $500 for residents and businesses planning new construction.
The revenue will help the village pay for costs associated with reviewing permit applications and zoning regulations, officials said.
The fees, effective immediately, are as follows: $20 for fences and other minor construction; $30 for residential outbuildings, remodeling and additions; $50 for commercial or industrial remodeling; $100 for new houses; $150 for commercial or industrial additions; and $500 for new commercial or industrial construction.
Trustee Mike Millette said the fees, which will be paid in addition to county fees, support the newly incorporated village's goal of "promoting controlled development.
"This reinforces that because enforcement and zoning are supposed to pay for themselves," he said.
The board voted 5-0 in favor of the schedule. Trustee Roy Pollack was absent.
Village President Patsy Smith said officials "tried to be fair" in setting the fees.
The income is expected to reimburse the village for the cost of providing the services of part-time zoning officer Chris Ranierie, who is paid $35 an hour for the work.
