Arts group to hold workshop at library

The Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will sponsor a free workshop to train and encourage art volunteers in the classroom from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31 and Wilson Street). Registration is at 6 p.m.

The workshop is open to all volunteers who present visual art appreciation as an augmentation to the art curriculum in both public and private elementary schools.

The program presenter is retired teacher Nancy Legner, who taught in Batavia elementary schools. She was the 2006 Illinois Elementary Art Educator of the Year.

The Art Volunteers in the Classroom program, previously known as "picture lady" or "picture presenters", has been an ongoing program in most area elementary schools for approximately 33 years.

The Fox Valley Associates, who sponsor this workshop are affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago.
