Curtain's rising on fall plays

Learning about acting in the classroom and applying that knowledge in the theater are two different scenarios.

Some students taking theater classes at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream will have the chance this week to flex the directorial muscles they've strengthened in class.

They'll tackle a series of plays at "Drama Palooza: An Evening of One-Acts." The event continues tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Theater at the school, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream. Tickets are $3.

The student-directed plays include "The Twelve-Pound Look," "Carwash," and "The Still Alarm," all selected by students in theater classes last spring, teacher Micki Bunting said. To even be eligible for consideration as a director, students must complete multiple theater classes as a prerequisite.

Even Principal John Mensik is getting in on the act this year: He'll have a walk-on cameo role in "Carwash."

"He was a real professional when he came to dress rehearsal," Bunting said of the novice thespian.
