Shanahan should get another chance

I would like to express my extreme disappointment with the decision BATV has made in the termination of Dan Shanahan.

My family was fortunate to meet Shanahan at, of all places, an orthodontist's office. When we began speaking with Dan, he mentioned that he was involved with BATV, a local television station.

It just so happens that my son would like to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. We live in the St. Charles school district which, unfortunately, does not offer such a program. Shanahan at this point said to my son, "we are going to be doing a live feed with the high school basketball game tonight -- would you like to come and help out?"

That evening after dropping my son off at the Batavia High School-BATV station, I went home and turned on Channel 17. Not only did Shanahan allow my son to help out, but my son was sharing the announcing duties! How exciting, not just for a child to experience, but for a parent (and of course all of the neighbors and relatives -- the phone lines were busy that night, everyone tuning into BATV-17).

I believe that this is going to be a huge loss for BATV. Not only does Shanahan help the children in Batavia school district, he also helps children from St. Charles school district to pursue their dreams.

I would like to ask that BATV board reconsider their decision, and bring Shanahan back to BATV.
