Preventive services that women need

As a resident of DuPage County for over 50 years, I was glad to see that Aurora is to have a fine new medical facility provided by Planned Parenthood, which will provide free or affordable services to low-income women who might not otherwise be able to afford reproductive health services.

I have been surprised and saddened by the amount of opposition to a facility that will be a real asset for our county.

Women need a convenient, trusted place to go to receive comprehensive, quality services. There is a need for sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment in our region, as well as for education and access to health care for teens. The new facility in Aurora will meet this need.

The preventive services that Planned Parenthood provides do more to promote responsible family planning and prevent the need for abortion than protesters ever will.
