Four men charged in Elgin truck theft

Four men were arrested Monday morning after an Elgin police sergeant stopped the truck they were in two blocks from where it was reported stolen, police said.

Ernest Bobo, 30, of 635 Wellington Ave., Elgin, Roy L. Scruggs, 36, of 1710 Mark Ave. #4, Elgin, Pharoah L. Walton, 29, of 6900 S. Shore, Chicago and Jordan T. Pinkney, 17, of 374 Franklin Blvd., Elgin, were charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, police said.

Bobo also was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a plastic bag with 0.4 grams of cocaine was found, police said.

Walton also used a fake name and was charged with obstruction of justice, police said.

Walton also was wanted on a felony warrant in Jackson County, police said.

A woman on the 300 block of Division Street told police she saw two men get into her husband's Ford F-150 truck and drive it away.

It is unknown why she waited 20 minutes to call her husband who reported the theft to police or why the alleged thieves stayed in the neighborhood.

When the Elgin police sergeant stopped the truck a couple of blocks away on the 400 block of North Street at 9:49 a.m. Monday, it had four occupants.

Bonds set on Tuesday were $7,500 for Bobo, $7,000 for Scruggs, $7,000 for Walton and $500 for Pinkney.

None were able to post bond and all were taken to the Kane County jail.

All have court dates on Oct. 18 in the Kane County Judicial Center.
