Briefs: OSHA grant goes to local associations

ROSEMONT -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Tuesday awarded more than $10 million grants to 55 nonprofit organizations for safety training. Among the recipients are Rosemont-based National Roofing Contractors Association, Park Ridge-based Non-Ferrous Founders Society and Wheeling-based North American Die Casting Association.

Health-care costs expected to hike

LINCOLNSHIRE -- According to Hewitt research, health-care costs are expected to rise 8.7 percent in 2008, up from 5.6 percent last year. Employees' share of those costs is also expected to rise: the average employee can expect to pay about $330 more in health-care costs this year compared to last year -- or $3,597 total (premiums and out-of-pocket costs). According to Hewitt, only 40 percent of employees actually made a proactive decision during open enrollment last year.
