2007 regular-season series: Cubs vs. Diamondbacks
The Cubs played the Arizona Diamondbacks six times this year, with the D'backs winning four games. Here is a capsule look at each game:
July 20 at Wrigley Field: Cubs 6, Diamondbacks 2
Aramis Ramirez broke open the game in the eighth with a 3-run homer off Brandon Lyon. Jason Marquis itched 7 2/3 innings of 4-hit ball to improve to 7-5.
July 21 at Wrigley Field: Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 2
Cubs reliever Bob Howry gave up a solo homer to Stephen Drew in the eighth. Outfielder Angel Pagan had a triple and 2 RBI for the Cubs.
July 22 at Wrigley Field: Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 0
Yusmeiro Petit and three relievers blanked the Cubs, who managed just 4 hits. Sean Marshall started for the Cubs and pitched well, but reliever Carlos Marmol gave up 2 in the seventh, when Chris Snyder homered.
Aug. 24 at Chase Field: Cubs 6, Diamondbacks 2
The Cubs scored twice in the first against Micah Owings, who hit a homer in the third against Sean Marshall. Marshall got the win with 6 innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball. The Cubs scored 3 in the ninth to put it away.
Aug. 25 at Chase Field: Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 1
Ted Lilly pitched well, but Cubs hitters did little against Doug Davis. The Cubs fell to 12-20 against left-handed starters at the time. Matt Murton went 3-for-4 against Davis.
Aug. 26 at Chase Field: Diamondbacks 5, Cubs 4
This was one of the Cubs' most frustrating losses, with manager Lou Piniella saying his club had to find a way to score more runs. Jason Marquis couldn't stand the prosperity of a 3-0 first-inning lead. The D'back's Chris Young hit 2 homers off Marquis.
