Man gets prison for identity theft
A Round Lake Beach man was sentenced to two years in prison Monday after his second conviction for financial identity theft.
Ricardo Nunez-Cambray, 32, was on probation from his first conviction when he was arrested July 10 by Round Lake Beach police.
Assistant State's Attorney Ryan Koehl said Nunez-Cambray, of 223 Heather Terrace, used the name and date of birth of a Prospect Heights man he knew to get a job at a Gurnee fast food restaurant.
Between April 19, 2006 and April 1, 2007, Nunez-Cambray earned about $10,000 at the restaurant, police said. During that same time, the Prospect Heights man suffered severe damage to his credit history because Nunez-Cambray was not paying taxes.
The failure to file tax reports affected the victim's credit because tax agencies flagged him as in default and credit agencies responded with their own penalties.
In December 2004, Nunez-Cambray pleaded guilty to financial identity theft for using false information to obtain $8,200 worth of medical care at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
In that case, Nunez-Cambray was placed on probation for 40 months and ordered to repay the hospital, Koehl said.
Court records show he repaid a total of $975, with the last payment coming in June 2005.
If sentenced to the maximum penalty in both cases, Nunez-Cambray could have faced up to eight years in prison.
