College to present a variety of concerts

The fall semester is under way at the College of Lake County and soon the 2007-08 concert season will follow.

This year, the college's music department has planned 13 shows offering a variety to fit every musical taste.

Shows feature student musicians and community members who participate in one or more of the college's four instrumental and three vocal ensembles.

The following is a schedule of events:

• Jazz Ensembles: 7:30 p.m., Oct. 26. Enjoy a variety of jazz, swing and big band music performed by the Monday and Tuesday Night Jazz Ensembles.

• Fall Choral Concert: 4 p.m. Oct. 28. Fresh from their Carnegie Hall performance last May, Dr. Charles Clency will conduct a variety of music performed by the CLC Singers, the Choir of Lake County and the Gospel Choir.

• Wind Ensemble: 4 p.m. Nov. 4. Classical and modern music with the Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Michael Flack.

• Jazz Sunday: 4 p.m. Nov. 18. CLC Monday and Tuesday Night Jazz Ensembles and featuring Los Angeles-based trumpeter Chuck Findley.

• Concert Band: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Classical and modern band music played by the Concert Band, directed by Paul Hefner.

• CLC Holiday Concert: 4 p.m. Dec. 9. Sounds of the holiday season performed by the Choir of Lake County, the CLC Singers, the Gospel Choir and the Wind Ensemble.

• Jazz Sunday: 4 p.m. Feb. 24. A tribute to Buddy Rich and His Orchestra performed by the Wind Ensemble, with guest conductor Steve Eggleston.

• Gospel Choir, 4 p.m. March 23.

• Jazz Ensembles, 4 p.m. April 13.

• Spring Choral Concert, 4 p.m. April 27.

• 31st Annual Guest Artist Concert featuring Larry McWilliams, trumpet; John Seidel, trombone; and Dick Oatts, saxophone, 4 p.m., May 4.

• Concert Band, 7:30 p.m. May 8.

All concerts are in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.
