Sweet redemption for Cards' coach
Ken Whisenhunt will admit it now. This game meant a little more than usual to Arizona's first-year coach.
So imagine his joy as the Cardinals "out-Steelered" Pittsburgh in a rugged 21-14 stunner of his old team Sunday in Glendale, Ariz.
Rookie Steve Breaston returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and Arizona's defense shut down Pittsburgh's high-scoring offense most of the day to hand the Steelers their first loss.
"It's obviously a special win for me to beat the Steelers," said Whisenhunt, who was Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator and a leading candidate to replace Bill Cowher after Cowher retired last season. "But I don't have any animosity toward that football team. ... The thing that I'm the proudest about is that our football team beat a good football team that nobody gave us a chance to do."
Raiders 35, Dolphins 17: Daunte Culpepper ran for 3 touchdowns and threw for 2 to win the grudge game against his former team. His much-scrutinized knee might not be 100 percent, but it was good enough to lead the visiting Raiders (2-2) over Miami (0-4).
Culpepper threw only 12 times and completed 5 for 75 yards, but hit Jerry Porter for scores of 7 and 27 yards. Justin Fargas replaced an injured LaMont Jordan shortly before halftime and ran for a career-high 179 yards in 22 carries.
Falcons 26, Texans 16: Joey Harrington threw a pair of touchdown passes to Michael Jenkins, 47-year-old Morten Andersen kicked 4 field goals, and host Atlanta defeated Matt Schaub and Houston.
Harrington, who took over as starter after Schaub was traded and Michael Vick became embroiled in a dogfighting case, was 23-of-29 for 223 yards.
Schaub was 28 of 40 for 317 yards.
Browns 27, Ravens 13: Derek Anderson threw 2 touchdown passes, and Jamal Lewis ran for 1 against his former team as host Cleveland surprised Baltimore. With their second win over a division opponent this month, the Browns (2-2) looked nothing like the inept team that was embarrassed 34-7 in their home opener three weeks ago by Pittsburgh.
Bills 17, Jets 14: Making his first career start in place of injured J.P. Losman, Buffalo's Trent Edwards went 22 of 28 for 234 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown to Michael Gaines with seven minutes left. The host Bills won their first game, while dropping the Jets to 1-3.
Seahawks 23, Niners 3: Matt Hasselbeck passed for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns, Rocky Bernard ended Alex Smith's day early with a punishing sack and visiting Seattle claimed early supremacy in the NFC West with a win over San Francisco.
Buccaneers 20, Panthers 7: Jeff Garcia didn't throw an interception for the fourth straight game and ran for a touchdown, while visiting Tampa Bay shut down David Carr, Steve Smith and Carolina to move atop the NFC South.
