Writing speeding tickets to raise cash
I got nailed in the latest Wheaton speed trap. Minutes later a fellow at Arrowhead Golf Club shook his head and said he understood some 234 citations had already been issued since the campaign began with unmarked police cars during the month of September.
Tell me anything that frustrates drivers more than the revenue-producing program of cops waiting to tag unsuspecting motorists for "speeding," the euphemism for exceeding the posted speed limit. My grandson speeds; I don't, even if exceeding the outrageously-low 30 mph limit on wide-open Orchard Road cost me 75 bucks. Any traffic policeman will privately admit the randomness of ticketing motorists for "speeding" and the unofficial pressure to "make quota." Whatever happened to warnings for residents with good driving records?
Anyway, I hope city hall enjoys its new furniture. When is the open house?
