Many thanks to a caring community

Thank you to our entire community for assisting us in relocating more than 400 children to a new school. The storm-caused flooding at May Whitney Elementary School in Lake Zurich on Aug. 6, and the resulting need for asbestos and mold removal from the school left students and staff members without their beloved school just days before the new school year was set to begin.

Thankfully, we are in a community that cares deeply about its children and their education. Thank you does not seem appropriate enough to convey the appreciation and gratitude we have for all of the parents, students, May Whitney School and District 95 staff members, community volunteers and businesses whose donations of time, materials and money allowed us to open the doors of the New May Whitney Elementary School five days before it was expected to open, a feat only made possible because of their tireless efforts.

From general cleaning to the hauling of desks and materials, from painting to carpentry and landscaping, our staff members, parents and business and community volunteers embodied the kindness and generosity that makes our community such a wonderful place to live, learn, work and raise happy, well-educated children.

We thank everyone who did so much for the students of May Whitney Elementary School. You truly made a difference for these children and our community. Your efforts serve as an excellent model of commitment and dedication for us all.

One of our school district's essential core values is that "successful communities are the result of people working in partnership toward common goals."

By stepping forward so selflessly, our community clearly demonstrated that core value and the importance of partnership. It is because of our caring, dedicated community that we will achieve our mission to inspire all students to be passionate, continuous learners and to prepare them with the skills to achieve their goals and flourish as responsible, caring citizens in a global community.
