St. Ed volleys for cancer research

The volleyball team at St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin is kicking off October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month with "Volley For the Cure."

The campaign was created as a way to honor and celebrate the heroic fights against breast cancer. This event is dedicated to all men and women who have been touched by breast cancer, with the hope that this devastating disease will one day be cured.

The Volley will be held at the St. Edward vs. Marian Central volleyball match at 6:30 p.m. today at the school, 335 Locust St., Elgin.

The event is designed to increase awareness of breast cancer among high school students, staff and the community, and to raise funds for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Before, during and after the volleyball match there will be a raffle of donated items, "souvenirs" thrown into the stands, and a split-the-pot raffle.

Pink "Volley for the Cure: 800 teams vs. Breast Cancer" event T-shirts will be sold for $7. The shirts are available in small, medium, large and extra-large.
