Convicted sex offender accused of abusing 13-year-old girl
A convicted sex offender is accused of molesting a 13-year-old Carol Stream girl he befriended on the Internet.
Marcus M. Tyms remained Thursday in the DuPage County jail on a $500,000 bond after being charged earlier this week with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Prosecutors said the 23-year-old Union, Ill. man has chatted with the teen on the Internet since June. At some point, the two began talking privately after exchanging cell phone numbers.
They arranged to meet Monday in a Carol Stream park. Officer Barry Schwartz spotted the two about 11:30 p.m. Monday while patrolling the park. Both fled.
Schwartz arrested Tyms shortly later after finding him in his car. Tyms will be arraigned Oct. 22 before DuPage Circuit Judge George Bakalis.
Tyms was required to register as a sex offender after being convicted of indecent solicitation of a 12-year-old child in Cook County.
