Bartlett Park District notes

Name the park contest: The Bartlett Park District is running a contest to name two new parks. The prize is a $50 park district gift certificate. The parks are located in the Bartlett Pointe and Castle Creek subdivision.

Participants should include the following information -- park site, suggested name, personal name and phone number. In the event that more than one person comes up with the selected name, a drawing will be done for the prize and naming honors.

To submit your suggestion, address e-mail to prussell@bartlettparks.org or send by mail to Bartlett Park District, Attn. Pat Russell, Name the Park Contest, 696 W. Stearns Road, Bartlett, IL 60103.

Entry forms are available at bartlettparks.org and the Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road. The deadline for entry is 1 p.m. Saturday. Entries must be in-hand at that time. E-mails will be entered with the time and date received.

Fall specials at Apple Orchard: The Apple Orchard Golf Course is offering fall specials to golfers looking to get in a few extra rounds before the end of the season. The following specials are not valid with any other offers, season passes or punch cards:

• 18 Holes Tuesdays and Thursdays -- Golfers may play 18 holes for one reduced greens fee. The rate is $13.50 ($17.50 nonresident). Offer good through Oct. 30.

• Replay Weekends -- After 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, golfers pay the replay rate. Regular replay rates apply. Offer good through Oct. 28.

• Twilight Rates -- Discount rates start at 5:30 p.m. when earlier sunsets may keep golfers from completing a round. Rate is $6.75 ($8.75 nonresident). Offer good through Oct. 30.

Apple Orchard Golf Course reserves the right to change or cancel fall specials at anytime.

Appear in the winter brochure: Send in favorite photos from a program, park, special event or activity for the chance to appear in the upcoming winter brochure. Digital photos should be of high resolution, and files can be up to 4MB.

E-mail photos to Stephanie FitzSimons at sfitzsimons@bartlettparks.org, send photos burned to disc to Bartlett Park District, 700 S. Bartlett Road, Bartlett, IL 60103, or drop it off at the Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road.

For hard copies, send duplicate copies to the same address. Do not send original photos. Participants submitting photos authorize the park district to utilize the material for promotional materials including brochures, fliers or Web site.

Photos received become the property of the Bartlett Park District and will be used only by the Bartlett Park District for promotional purposes and will not be shared with any other organization without the written consent of the photographer.

Permission is required from photo subjects, and in the case of minors, participants must be the parent, guardian or have permission from said person to send in the photo.

Fishing derby results: The Bartlett Park District's annual event is offered free to ages 15 and younger. The derby is a catch-and-release derby held at Beaver Pond in August.

First-place winners for ages 2 to 4 were Anthony Johansen (5½" bass), Tatiana Vukelic (6½" blue gill), and Kyle Kudrna (10" catfish).

First-place winners for ages 5 to 7: Catelyn Calabra (14½" bass) and Miles Kleeman (6½" blue gill).

First-place winners for ages 8 to 11: Kim Griffin (19½" bass), Tatun Jordon (8" blue gill), and a tie between Maria Repiscak and Haley Erjavac (13" catfish).

First-place winners for ages 12 to 15: Rocky Furio (17½" bass), Martin Janowski (6¾" blue gill), and Samantha Gonzalez (25" catfish).

Winners in the category of other: Tatiana Vuklic (ages 2 to 4, 8" crappie), Miles Kleeman (ages 5 to 7, 7½" crappie), Alexia Fontela (ages 8 to 11, 20" carp), and Thomas Cappilopo (ages 12 to 15, 6¾" crappie).
