Kiwanis Clubs help our communities
On Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29, orange- vested volunteers from Kiwanis clubs will be seen on street corners and in front of businesses handing out packages of peanuts. Funds collected for the Peanut Day event go back into the community, helping local children. Without the contributions of some key individuals and businesses, this event couldn't take place.
For more than 50 years, the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn has continued to support local children's causes, awarding scholarships to local students, collecting food for pantries and various other ways too numerous to mention. Volunteering with the Kiwanis will be the Aktion Club, a club for adult members with special needs, and the energetic members of the Key Clubs of Glenbard West and Glenbard South high schools, along with friends and family of Kiwanis members.
Business leaders in the community have shown their support by underwriting the cost of the peanuts distributed on Peanut Day. We are grateful to Mike Breeser at Breeser's Painting and Decorating, Community Bank of Wheaton-Glen Ellyn, Gary Mayo at Dairy Queen in Glen Ellyn, Danby's Station Restaurant, Dr. Kelly at DuPage Family Eyecare, Bill Connelly at Glen Ellyn Bank and Trust, Sally Hatcher at Remax of Glen Ellyn, Mike Formento of Formento Interiors, Jerry Haggerty Chevrolet, Inc., Health Tracks Sports and Wellness, Linea Hair Salon and Day Spa, Linneweh Ltd., Malloy's Finest Wines and Spirits, Motor World Inc., P.J.'s Camera and Stock, Carlson, Flynn and McGrath LLC.
In addition, many Kiwanis club members have purchased the peanuts to be given away with their own funds. We also are indebted to Dominick's, Jewel/Osco, McChesney and Miller , Trader Joe's and WalMart , who have kindly allowed our volunteers to collect donations outside their doors.
So when you see the Kiwanis and drop your donation into the bucket, you will know you are part of something very special, and we honor and appreciate that. You are investing in our community by supporting our future- our children.
