Meadows, Maine West like tune-up results

With regionals just a week away, Rolling Meadows hosted a nonconference triangular on Wednesday to usher in the postseason.

Marian Central came out ahead at Arlington Lakes with a 182 followed by the Mustangs (190) and Maine West (194).

It was a good outing for No. 4 Amanda Coleman, who stepped up and carded a 42 to lead Meadows.

"Things were going really well and everything was going my way," said Coleman. "I had 4 pars in a row. Today was a step up from conference. Hopefully, regionals will be even better."

Also having a stellar round with a 45 was No. 5 Megan Baumgartner.

"I'm pleased that we had some decent scores from Amanda and Megan," said Rolling Meadows Dan Rymarz. "They had one of their better meets. We have to go into the regionals thinking positively. They're capable of doing it."

Melissa Greenwood (50) and Shannon Leon (53) also counted scores for the Mustangs.

The day was also positive for Maine West, which had struggled a bit against Deerfield on Monday. Chelsea Kellogg led the way for the Warriors by carding a 43.

"We did a lot better as a team today," said Kellogg. "I was more relaxed today. It was a fun round."

The round also tunes up the Warriors, who head into today's Central Suburban Conference meet at Sunset Valley in Highland Park.

"It's good to compete before conference," said Maine West coach John Hauenstein. "We're are going to be in a position where we have to put four good scores on the board.

"We have regionals next week which is more of the same."

Becca Candra (46), Michelle Braun (51) and Courtney Insolia (54) all had scoring rounds for the Warriors.

Tori Stock, a long-time acquaintance of Kellogg, plays for Marian Central and the two got a chance to play together in the lead group. Stock and teammate Natalie Buch shot 38s to lead the Hurricanes.

"I started out putting pretty well," Stock said. "I had a pretty even round. Wasn't my best night. I usually play well on this course -- I love this course."

"I had two birdies in a row -- I had a good round," added Buch.
