Stevenson High prepares for homecoming

Stevenson High School students and alumni are celebrating homecoming this week -- and the public is invited to the party.

A variety of community events are scheduled for the Lincolnshire school's 42nd homecoming, including a parade and an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.

Stevenson High students get into the act, with traditional dress-up days, including Monday with band T-shirt day and Tuesday with tie-dye day.

Today is Class Color Day. Seniors should wear green, juniors should wear gold, sophomores should wear blue and freshmen should wear red. Faculty members should wear, as spokesman Jim Conrey put it, flamingo pink.

Everyone should wear pajamas Thursday on the aptly named Pajama Day.

Finally, Friday is Spirit Day, so students and staff should wear green and gold.

As for the public, the Stevenson High School Community Foundation is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday on the grassy area north of the field house. Admission is $5 and covers a buffet featuring French toast, sausages, bagels, doughnuts and beverages.

The parade is set for 9 a.m. Saturday. It will begin at the Woodland Commons shopping center, which is at Route 22 and Buffalo Grove Road, and wind its way to the Stevenson campus.

Class floats, the Marching Patriots, jugglers and other groups will march in the parade. Community businesses or organizations that want to participate should call Director of Student Activities Greg Sherwin at (847) 634-4000, ext. 1350.

The varsity football game against North Chicago High School is set for noon that day. A special halftime show will feature performances by the Marching Patriots and Spirit Revolution.
