Lombard, Villa Park team up in home invasion case
Authorities in Lombard and Villa Park have arrested a 23-year-old Broadview man in connection to a recent armed home invasion.
Decartys D. Montgomery, of 2520 S. 16th Ave., was arrested Friday in Chicago on a warrant issued by DuPage County Associate Judge Brian Diamond, officials announced Tuesday.
Montgomery has been charged with home invasion with a firearm and armed robbery. He remained in jail Tuesday on a $250,000 bond.
The charges stem from an Aug. 16 case, in which someone entered the home of a Lombard woman shortly after 1 a.m. on the 400 block of West Harding Road, Lombard Deputy Police Chief Dane Cuny said.
"She was in another room watching TV before she walked into the bedroom and observed a window was open," Cuny said. "The offender was standing there with a handgun."
Cuny said the intruder demanded money before fleeing on foot.
With home invasions and armed robberies, Cuny said, "These crimes, statistically, are perpetrated by individuals who live nearby.
"This is the kind of crime where a person who doesn't have a connection to the neighborhood is the most difficult to identify," Cuny added.
Cuny said Montgomery was identified based on a fingerprint found at the scene.
Montgomery's next court date is scheduled for Oct. 15.
