Briefs: High schools' barbecue
The Marmion-Rosary Music Boosters are having a Fay's Barbeque fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Marmion Academy, 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. The fundraiser is take-out only and tickets are $10 for your choice of a two-pork chop, half-chicken or combination dinner. It is recommended tickets be purchased in advance by calling (630) 761-0596. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
Meet new police chief
Campton Hills residents can meet the village's first police chief during a special event Thursday. "Meet the Chief" is set for 6:30 p.m. at Campton Township Community Center, 5N082 Old LaFox Road. Chief Greg Anderson, who takes over police coverage of the village Nov. 1, will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the police department's future. Call (630) 584-0330.
Overnight flea market
The Kane County Flea Market will have its 6th Annual A Night Under the Moon sale from 4 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday at the county fairgrounds on Randall Road in St. Charles. Vendors will sell antiques, jewelry and collectibles, among other items, throughout the night. Market goers are encouraged to bring flashlights. Help walk kids to school
Volunteers are needed to assist students walking to school as part of International Walk to School Week at Batavia's H.C. Storm Elementary School starting Monday. The weeklong event is meant to emphasize physical activity for children, pedestrian safety and a sense of community. Volunteers are needed to watch intersections near the school before 9 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. Anyone interested should call the school at (630) 879-4637.
