Group to talk video policy

The Cook Memorial Public Library District board's policy review committee meets today to discuss creating a video checkout policy, one that could prevent minors from checking out certain videotapes or DVDs. The library district has no policy currently, and the board last discussed creating such rules in 2003. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the main library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

New Libertyville Web site

Libertyville village board trustees meet as a committee of the whole at 7 p.m. today at village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave., to discuss the village's new Web site prior to its release. The village board in June agreed to revamp the site and hired a design firm for about $23,000 to build it. More background on village government, including meeting minutes and staff information, as well as a page to link to online services and other features will be incorporated. The Web site is expected to debut soon.

Meet the Marathon Man

The executive director of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, Carey Pinkowski, will discuss this year's marathon at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court. Pinkowski will discuss this year's 30th anniversary event -- on Oct. 7 -- which is one of the largest in the world. He will discuss the logistics of putting on the event, the elite runners expected to participate, and what first-timers should expect on race day. The event is free, and is sponsored by the Arlington Trotters of Arlington Heights and the Alpine Runners of Lake Zurich, who will also speak about their respective clubs. A representative from Team in Training will talk about running for charity, and several area running stores are invited to talk about the gear they carry.

Play set for Stevenson

Stevenson High School students will perform comedian Steve Martin's play, "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," on Oct. 5 and 6. The show, first performed at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, is a fictional account of a meeting between Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. each day in the school's performing arts center. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.

CLC show sold out

The Guitarras de EspaƱa (The Guitars of Spain) performance at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County at 8 p.m. on Friday has sold out, and no further tickets are available. The Guitars of Spain is the second show in the new season at the center and follows the nearly sold out season-opening performance by Paula Poundstone on Sept. 21.
