Palatine restaurant closes
Downtown Palatine's Brockway Chophouse has closed, and the details surrounding it are uncertain. Signs now hang on the door saying it will reopen in 30 days after remodeling. According to Mike Cassidy of the Hummel Group -- which owns the restaurant -- a new concept is being discussed, and the group is working with an "experienced restaurateur" for the site.
Police say driver fled
Bartlett police have arrested a 20-year-old woman they say fled the scene of an accident Sunday on West Bartlett Road. Authorities said Maria Puello, 39W939 Stanton Drive, St. Charles, was trying to enter the flow of traffic from the median near Park Place Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. when she struck the side of a 1978 GMC Van. Puello, who was on a 2004 Kawasaki Sport Motorcycle, fled the scene on the motorcycle of someone who'd been riding with her, police said. Puello was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and was cited for not having a valid driver's license and improper starting of parked vehicle, police said. Authorities said Puello came to the police station about 5 p.m. after being contacted. She was released on bond and has a Oct. 23 court date at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
Meet the Marathon Man
The executive director of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, Carey Pinkowski, will discuss this year's marathon at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court. Pinkowski will discuss this year's 30th anniversary marathon, which is on Oct. 7. The Chicago marathon is one of the largest in the world. He will discuss the logistics of putting on the event, the elite runners expected to participate and what first-timers should expect on race day. The event is free and is sponsored by the Arlington Trotters of Arlington Heights and the Alpine Runners of Lake Zurich, who also will speak about their respective clubs. A representative from Team in Training will talk about running for charity and several area running stores are invited to talk about the gear they carry.
Bullet grazes Hanover man
Hanover Park police said a bullet grazed the left side of a 21-year-old man's face about 6:30 p.m. Saturday near Maple Avenue and Aspen Lane. The victim was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital, authorities said. Police said the suspect fled north on a gray bicycle after firing the handgun. Police said they've yet to established a motive. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Hanover Park police at (630) 372-4400.
