Abortion is legal, dog fights are not

This is in response to the Sept. 18 letter headlined "Inconsistencies are disturbing."

Why are people making the comparison of dog fighting to abortion? Dog fighting is illegal, abortion is not! Michael Vick was not misusing dogs; he was killing them; breeding and watching dogs fight to the death. A person who does that obviously has some mental deficiencies. Isn't that how Jeffrey Dahmer got started, by killing animals?

However, abortion is a right given to women by the Supreme Court. Why do men even weigh in on this issue? It's not happening to their body. This is a medical procedure between a woman and a medical professional.

Dog fighting is happening to defenseless animals. One's a choice, one is not. One is illegal, one is not. Stop making the comparison. There is none. You're right: Where have all our standards gone?
