Northern Illinois University activities
The Maia String Quartet, with clarinetist Daniel Silver will hold a recital at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Northern Illinois University's Recital Hall in DeKalb.
Pieces on the program include Larghetto from the Quintet in A, K. 581 by Mozart, Beethoven*s Quartet No. 3 in D major, Op. 18. The recital will conclude with a piece by composer Margaret Brouwer, Quintet for Clarinet in A and String Quartet.
Brouwer will introduce the piece and will join the performers after the concert for an informal talk-back session.
The Maia Quartet consists of Tricia Park, violin, Zoran Jakovcic, violin, Elizabeth Oakes, viola, and Hannah Holman, cello. Since its formation in 1990, the Maia Quartet has established itself nationally as an ensemble of innovation and versatility.
This season, the Maia Quartet will collaborate with the University of Iowa's Department of Music Therapy, University of Iowa's Holden Cancer Center and other University areas to present a series of events titled "Music, Healthcare and Wellbeing."
These events will focus on numerous health-related issues, such as breast cancer awareness, hearing loss, mental health and multiple sclerosis and will take place throughout the University of Iowa and the Iowa City community. This project will involve concerts, lectures and numerous outreach events.
The Quartet also will be featured on a CD of works from the Music in the Loft series in Chicago.
Currently the faculty QuartetinResidence at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City.
The Quartet runs a PreCollege Chamber Music Program and performs regularly for families and young children in the Iowa City area.
