Ranch living appealing to all lifestyles

Offering more than 2,400 square feet of living space and priced at $399,990, the new Carrington ranch plan has garnered the attention of a cross-section of buyers at Tuscan Woods in Elgin.

Once thought of as the plan for down-sizers and empty-nesters, today's single-level ranch lifestyle appeals to young couples, families and retirees alike.

"We've seen the demand for ranch-style homes increase significantly over the past five years and particularly among young couples and families," says Robert Meyn, vice president of sales and marketing for Ryland Homes, the neighborhood developer.

"Single-level living is very desirable for families with young children since it's easier to keep an eye on little one's when they're on the same level. Many younger buyers purchase a ranch for visiting parents who can't physically handle the challenge of stairs on a regular basis or are planning for the future when they may care for a loved one permanently. Still others simply like the way a ranch plan looks on the inside and out. The overall openness of the Carrington and room placement make it a crowd-pleaser."

Highlights of the newly introduced Carrington include three bedrooms, two baths, a basement and attached two-car garage.

A covered front porch welcomes guests to the Carrington and opens to the foyer. To the left, the second and third bedrooms are served by the full hall bath; to the right, the formal dining room is accented by decorative columns.

Certain to be the center of formal and informal gatherings are the island kitchen with breakfast room which opens to the family room.

Designed to optimize privacy, the master suite is to the rear of the home and features two walk-in closets and a private bath.

Located on Highland Avenue just east of Randall Road and amid mature neighborhoods, Tuscan Woods is a Ryland Homes community that offers 75 sites measuring one-third to one-half acre. Boasting a country setting with several ponds and a walking path that winds through the neighborhood, Tuscan Woods offers sites that back to mature oak trees and open spaces. The community itself consists of 60-acres, however, 40 of those acres are protected from development.

In addition to the new Carrington, seven traditional two-story plans range from 2,709 to 3,446 square feet in size with four bedrooms; 2½ baths; open family rooms; dens or studies; basements; and attached two- or optional three-car garages. Two professionally decorated model homes are open for touring and daily. Homes are currently priced from $376,990 to $448,990.

"We've also recently introduced 30 Phase Two sites which are among the most picturesque in Tuscan Woods," Meyn says. "Some back to mature trees, others to a protected nature area and many are on cul-de-sacs."

Features included in the homes at Tuscan Woods are 9-foot first-floor ceilings; painted six-panel colonist doors and trim; designer lighting; 42-inch oak kitchen cabinets; volume ceilings in some areas; decorator counters; and luxury master baths with ceramic tile floors, 35-inch vanities and solid-surface vanity tops. Exteriors feature siding and brick fronts, energy-efficient double-pane windows and sodded and landscaped front and side yards with asphalt driveways.

"As a summer incentive we're including a wood-burning fireplace, central air conditioning, oak stairs and railings and ceramic tile floors in the foyer, kitchen and breakfast areas says.
