Man held in gun spree

Bond was set at $100,000 Friday for the 27-year-old man accused of going on a shooting spree at Carpentersville's Fox View Apartments on Aug. 31.

Dion C. Hubbard, of 3337 W. Madison St., Chicago, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed violence and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

According to police, after Hubbard argued with a woman at 12:04 a.m. Aug. 31 in the parking lot of 7 Oxford Drive, she sped off in her car and almost struck a child on her way out. A group of bystanders then attacked Hubbard, who was left standing in the lot. He pulled out a gun, shot one man in the arm and another in the toe, and fired numerous shots at two other women and a teenage girl, police said. He also struck one of the women in the face with his gun, police said.

Hubbard then fled in a red car that crashed into a squad car, and he spent the night hiding in the woods at Keith Andres Park, police said.

He was caught by Chicago police Wednesday and was returned to Carpentersville.

Hubbard said in court Friday he was on parole for home invasion and attempted murder.

The Kane County state's attorney's office said Hubbard also had been convicted of possession of a controlled substance, selling drugs to a minor and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

He was unable to post bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Friday afternoon.

His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 5 in the courtroom of Kane County Judge Timothy Sheldon at the Kane County Judicial Center.
