Challenge to raise funds for scholarship

Several local teams have already begun training for the second annual Youth Scholarship Team Challenge, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 9.

The Elgin Parks and Recreation Department holds this event each year to raise money for the Youth Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to children of families who can otherwise not afford to participate in city recreational programs.

Entry fees are $350 for teams of up to 12 members. Up to eight teams will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Teams will compete in 12 different events throughout the four-hour challenge, including a Pie Eating Contest, Water Relay, Tug-o-War and Pop Quiz Trivia.

Teams also will compete in raising money for the scholarship fund through private donations. The public will be able to earmark their donation to be credited to the team of their choice.

Teams can register while slots are still available, with a deadline of Oct. 1. For details, call Liz Langton at (847) 531-7018.
