Boy hit by SUV while biking still in the hospital
One of two boys hit by an SUV while riding a bike in Hanover Park remained in the hospital Thursday.
The child, whom police did not name nor release any information on, was riding a bicycle with a friend when he was hit.
Hanover Park police said the crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tanglewood Avenue and Hanover Street on the north side of the village.
A 1999 Lincoln Navigator was heading west on Tanglewood, police said, when the two kids on the bike --one was riding on pegs on one of the wheels -- rode into the intersection.
Police said the Navigator hit the bike as it moved into its path.
The two boys, along with the driver of the Lincoln, were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for treatment.
On Thursday, Hanover Park Deputy Chief Mark Gatz said one of the boys remained in the hospital, but he would not comment on the child's condition.
The driver of the Navigator, police said, was not issued any citations.
While police would not release any information on the children, witnesses to the crash said it involved two boys.
Rob Waszak, who lives at the corner, said he was watching TV when he heard the crash and dialed 911.
Waszak said when he ran to the boy he was bleeding pretty badly, so he got a towel and wrapped it around his head.
Waszak said Tanglewood Avenue is a popular short cut for drivers looking to avoid the major intersection of Barrington and Irving Park roads.
He planned to attend Thursday's village board meeting to ask about having speed bumps added or closing access to the street from Barrington Road.
