Chicago game show comes to the 'burbs

"Don't Spit the Water," the offbeat game show that has been playing late nights at Chicago's Playground Theater for a couple of years, begins a two-month run at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre Saturday.

Inspired by TV's "Make Me Laugh," the show involves contestants from the audience keeping a straight face and not spitting water they've got in their mouths while quirky comedians try to crack them up. Performances are at 10 p.m. Saturdays at the Metropolis, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Tickets are $16.50. (847) 577-2121.

Record store relocates, expands: After 17 years in Hoffman Estates, CD store owner Robby Glick relocated his Record Breakers to Chicago's South Side earlier this month. But the new loft-like space, accented with graffiti-inspired murals, consists of more than a CD shop. Next door at 2109 S. State St. Glick opened Reggie's Live, a combination bar, restaurant and music club featuring all ages and ages and 18+ shows booked by MP Productions and ranging from punk, rock and hardcore to psychobilly, power pop and hip-hop.

So far, the move hasn't cost them their patrons.

"Fortunately, our Hoffman Estates customers are pretty loyal to us," says Record Breakers manager Charlotte Newman. "Quite a few have come in the last week excited for our opening."

Reggie's hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Record Breakers' hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Reggie's hosts several concerts each week, with all ages shows beginning between 5 and 7 p.m. and the 18 and older shows beginning after 9 p.m. The cover ranges from free to $20. Eight years and counting: Cabaret artists Daryl Nitz and George Howe celebrate their 500th performance Saturday at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret, 1383 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago.

The duo, whose act includes everything from Broadway standards to pop hits along with Nitz's impressions of everyone from Frank Sinatra to Billie Holiday, perform at 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at Davenport's. The cover is $2, plus a two-drink minimum. (773) 278-1830.
