The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago opens its 2007-08 season with the area premiere of "A Slipping Glimpse," a full-length work by San Francisco-based Margaret Jenkins Dance Company co-created with the Tanusree Shankar Dance Company of Calcutta.

The theater is transformed into an in-the-round seating space and features live accompaniment by the Paul Dresher Ensemble. Don't forget the Outdoor Prologue before each performance.

Peaceful practitioner

Before it officially launches Oct. 27, the Chicago Humanities Festival and the University of Chicago host Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai as part of its 2007 theme of "A Climate of Concern." Maathai shares her experiences as a political activist, feminist and environmentalist, all of which is detailed in her autobiography "Unbowed." In Liza's limelight

Liza Minnelli's Saturday concert at Naperville's Pfeiffer Hall might be sold out, but you can bask in the success of a former Chicagoan performing alongside the Hollywood legend. Johnny Rodgers was the resident pianist/singer at Chicago's nightclub Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret before heading to the Big Apple.
