Briefs: Suspects plead not guilty

Four men have pleaded not guilty to charges they bound and robbed Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker at gunpoint during a Chicago home invasion. All four are charged with armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping and home invasion. They are: 28-year-old Antoine Larkins, 25-year-old Demorris Hill, 28-year-old Phillip Allison and 23-year-old Gregory Reedfields. The four are accused of breaking into Walker's townhouse July 9 and using duct tape to bind the NBA player and a relative. Authorities say they stole Walker's Mercedes, cash and jewelry. Two of the four, Hill and Larkins, also are suspects in a similar robbery of New York Knicks forward Eddy Curry. The four are next due in court Oct. 19. They are being held without bond.

More pressure on France

The U.S. State Department is joining Illinois' U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Barack Obama in asking France to extradite a man suspected of killing a Chicago dermatologist. Hans Peterson turned himself in to French authorities last month for the 2006 killing of Dr. David Cornbleet. Peterson has dual French and American citizenship. An arrest warrant was issued in Chicago, but French officials have said they won't extradite Peterson because he's a French citizen. He'll be tried in a French court. State Department spokesman Jeffrey Bergner claims it's an "inequitable situation" as France extradites its citizens to the European Union but not to the U.S.
