Autumn Fest brings Oak Brook residents together
For more than a decade, Oak Brook residents have been welcoming fall with pumpkins, ponies and even a little magic.
This Sunday, the magic will continue with the annual Oak Brook Autumn Festival at the Oak Brook Bath and Tennis Club.
The rain-or-shine family event will feature face-painting and balloon sculptures with Clown Rudi Kazoodi, pony rides, activities from the DuPage Children's Museum and two magic shows by Bob James Magic Shop.
Mary Meranda, a staff member at the bath and tennis club, said the annual event is designed to bring a sense of community to the village. Because Oak Brook is made up of many corporate complexes and housing subdivisions, Meranda said the fall fest is a great way for residents to socialize.
"There are lots of big subdivisions and housing lots, so it's not like you can just reach out and borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor," she said.
"(The fest) is a good time and place for residents to get together and see people they might not see on a daily basis."
Other festival attractions will include chemistry demonstrations, hair braiding, three inflatable climbing activities, Pirate Ship and Chaos and a naturalist program.
Food will be sold at the poolside grill and one free pumpkin will be given to each family while supplies last. Parking is free.
