Be patient; this, too, shall pass
No doubt about it: The Holy Roman Catholic Church, as Leo Miklius (Fence Post, Aug. 30) said, has clearly marked exit doors.
But to be perfectly clear some exits should be marked "liberals," and the others, "evangelicals."
Leo is an evangelical and Florence Smith (Fence Post, Aug. 18) is a liberal, and both are Catholic.
Without knowing the ages of either, I'd guess that Florence has been around to experience the pre-Vatican II church and Leo hasn't. Florence is led by the updated theology of Vatican II and Leo by the dogma of the church, i.e., "to humbly submit to the apostolic teaching and authority which has been faithfully handed down for more than 2,000 years," meaning back to Peter the Rock.
Leo goes to heaven through the exits of the church (but doesn't go far enough yet to say that the gates are also open to liberals and maybe even Protestants), and Florence through observance of the Ten Commandments. In the interim, be patient; this too shall pass.
