Skates helps Boy Scouts open annual popcorn sale

To kick off the Three Fires Boy Scout Council's annual popcorn sale, the Chicago Wolves Hockey Team mascot, "Skates" made an appearance at Colonial Cafe in St. Charles on Aug. 29.

Colonial Cafe and Ice Cream and the Chicago Wolves Hockey Team have once again partnered with the local Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Boy Scouts who sell more than $250 in popcorn will receive a coupon that is redeemable at any Colonial Cafe for an All-American Banana Split. Every Scout that sells $1,000 will receive two tickets to the Jan. 19 Chicago Wolves hockey game with special seating on the lower level. In addition, each Scout will receive an autographed hockey puck.

"By supporting local and national organizations, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities in which we serve, through charitable donations," stated Tom Anderson, president of Colonial Cafe. "Last year, we presented more than 1,500 coupons to these top sellers and this year we hope to give out even more."

"We are excited to team up again with Colonial Cafe and the Chicago Wolves for our annual popcorn sale. In 2006, nearly 500 Scouts qualified to attend the Wolves hockey game," stated Wayne Pancoast, director of finance for the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America. "With more than 35,000 boys participating in local Scouting, Colonial's and the Chicago Wolves allegiance to our organization has been outstanding".

Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America serves more than 35,000 youth in the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, DeKalb and parts of Will and Cook counties. The Boy Scouts of America is a nationally recognized youth organization offering programs of character development and value-based leadership training.
