Performing arts events: Gorton Community Center has announced its fall line up of professional performing arts events for the whole family:

• Jim Gill Children's Concert, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday. Jim Gill plays energetic rhythms on his banjo while everyone sings, claps, jumps, dances and even sneezes along. Although he is best known for his silly recordings and books for young children, Jim Gill is a child development specialist with 20 years of experi­ence working with young children and families. Appropriate for ages 2 to 6.

• Red Rose Ragtime Band, 4 p.m. Sept. 30. These Gorton Center favorites return with their repetoire of ragtime, early jazz, Dixieland and more.

• Switchback Celtic Cieli, catered Irish supper (optional) at 6 p.m. and Ceili concert at 8 p.m., Nov. 10. Enjoy an evening of Irish music, storytelling and step dancing with optional catered Irish supper. Ceili is a Gaelic word meaning "a gathering." Features Irish roots duo Switch­back (Martin McCormack and Brian FitzGerald), bodhran player Jim Hines and the McNulty Irish Step Dancers.

• da Corneto Opera Company presents "Don Pasquale," 3 p.m. Nov. 18. Experience the music and fun of this fully staged and costumed comedic opera with English subtitles. This production is a special performance for the Gorton Center before the company performs at the international music festival in Mazatlan Mexico.

• Espresso Holiday Cabaret, 4 p.m. Dec. 9. Four cabaret will perform winter and holiday favorites, European carols, "The Night Before Christmas" and "The Twelve Days After Christmas," topped off with origi­nal songs and a rousing "Jingle Bell Rag!" Starring Elizabeth Doyle, Claudia Hommel, John Eskola and Bob Moreen.
