Artist offering color, humor at festival
If you like a touch of humor in your artwork, Rosann Wynykoski of St. Charles will oblige.
She describes her bright paintings in acrylic and colored ink as contemporary but a little primitive.
Wynkoski will be one of about 70 artisans selling their works at The Country Folk Art Festival Friday evening, Saturday and Sept. 23 in St. Charles.
Consider "How Many Sheep to Sleep" where a woman lies in her bed and sheep soar over.
It's a favorite of her husband, John, and her son, Andrew.
"They like the colors and the style and the humor," said Rosann. "Take a number cracks everyone up," she said, referring to a sign within the painting.
She's been showing at the folk art festival for a few years now.
Rosann was a big fan of the festival, and when she and her husband were there one year he mentioned to an artist that his wife also painted.
At the artist's request the couple ran home and got a few of Rosann's works, and the other artist showed them to Judy Marks, the organizer.
Rosann has a thing for witches, no matter what time of year it is. A picture inspired by a figure she saw labeled "student witch" is "Witch School."
Women in brightly colored dresses and pointed hats are practicing flying and attending other classes.
Rosann's working on "If the Broom Fits" about the buying and selling of witches' favorite mode of transportation.
And another one perfect to welcome new babies is "It's the New Kid," where animals gather around a baby buggy in front of a bright blue cottage.
She sells framed original art for $125 to $450 and unframed prints start at under $30.
