The third-place match of the Maine East Invite came down to a battle between the two "Maines".
South topped West 25-21, 25-17 as the Warriors finished the tourney with a 2-3 record.
Alise Tupuritis (31 kills) and Amanda Knipp (30 kills) were top attackers for West (5-6) in its five matches while Mary Kusner added 15 kills and 17 blocks.
"We're playing with a more sophisticated attack," said West coach Randy Tiller. "Mary Kusner is developing more shots and for the first time she had more kills than blocks in match.
"Amanda has returned from an ankle injury and Alise (Tupuritis) is recovering from a knee injury."
Maria Rozo served 8 aces fort he Warriors, followed by Liz Freeman (7), Michelle Obillo (5) and Emily Ott (3).
"This was a great experience for the team," Tiller said. "We showed that we are competitive with very strong teams. We broadened our range of attack and dug the floor better than we have in previous matches.
"It all comes as we move into the conference portion of our schedule. We face a strong Glenbrook North team on Monday night."
