Thornton's 2 goals lift Judson

Improving to 2-2-1 on the year, the Judson University women's soccer team came away with a 3-1 win over Missouri Baptist Saturday in Missouri.

Sophomore Christina Thornton, a Dundee-Crown graduate, had 2 of the 3 goals for the Eagles.

Samantha Vestal added 2 assists for the Eagles while Baerbel Hartner netted the third goal of the game on an assist from both Thornton and Vestal.

JU out-shot MBU 9-6 for the day. Rebecca O'Donnell had 9 saves in the win.

Men's soccer

Columbia College 2, Judson 1: Judson concluded play at its own tournament with this tough 2-1 loss to Columbia College of Missouri. Tied at 1-1 until the 84th minute, the Cougars pulled ahead with a goal and held on. Mark Howlett scored the lone Eagles goal of the day assisted by Gustavo Oliveira.

Judson will open CCAC play on Wednesday when it hosts St. Xavier at 4 p.m.

South Suburban 6, ECC 1: South Suburban overpowered ECC in this ISCC contest. Pat Parsons scored the only Spartan goal and was assisted by Luise Medina. Joe Ruffalo handled goalkeeper duties for ECC netting 7 saves.

Women's volleyball

Judson splits: The Judson women's volleyball team split matches on Day 2 of the St. Francis Tournament defeating Missouri Valley in three games (32-20, 30-23, 30-21) before losing to St. Francis (30-23, 30-20, 30-24).

Erin Bultinck led the way with 10 kills and 15 digs versus Missouri Valley. Alesha Flikkema hit .500 and had 4 blocks while Debra Leganski added 22 digs. Kym Gagnon contributed with 21 digs.

Judson will host St. Xavier in CCAC play on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
