Florida Atlantic over Minnesota 42-39

MIAMI -- Seven turnovers were at least 1 too many for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Adam Weber threw his fourth interception to end the Gophers' bid for a come-from-behind win Saturday, and they lost to Florida Atlantic 42-39.

Rusty Smith threw for 463 yards and 5 touchdowns to help the Owls earn their first victory against a Big Ten Conference team. The Owls also had four receivers with over 80 receiving yards.

Weber went 31-for-47 for 335 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes for the Gophers (1-2), who made 29 first downs, but turnovers were costly.

"It killed us," Weber said. "When we had opportunities to score, we'd just shoot ourselves in the foot. When you turn the ball over it makes it hard. Give credit to Florida Atlantic. They were able to put up points and win the game."

Minnesota's last turnover was an interception by Florida Atlantic's Tavious Polo at the Owls' 35-yard line with three seconds left to seal the win.

Florida Atlantic (2-1) committed no turnovers and gained 580 yards.
