9th-ranked Louisville shocked in last minute

Steve Johnson let the big play go through his hands once. The Kentucky wide receiver wasn't about to do it twice.

Johnson's 57-yard touchdown reception from quarterback AndrDe Woodson capped the Wildcats' stirring 40-34 upset over No. 9 Louisville in Lexington, Ky., and made an unlikely hero out of the seldom-used Johnson.

The senior spent most of the last two seasons playing in the shadow of more heralded teammates Keenan Burton, Dicky Lyons Jr. and Jacob Tamme.

But with the Wildcats trailing by a point in the final minute against their arch rival, Johnson made the play that mattered when it mattered most.

Johnson slipped past Louisville's Woodny Turenne, then raced down the sidelines to the end zone, setting off a celebration that seemed unlikely after a personal foul penalty moved the Wildcats back to their own 43.

The play was awfully similar to one at the end of the first half, when Johnson (3 catches, 65 yards) was alone at the goal line but let a Woodson pass bounce harmlessly off his hands.

USC 49, Nebraska 31: Stafon Johnson ran for 144 yards and 1 of USC's 5 rushing touchdowns and John David Booty threw 2 short TD passes as top-ranked USC rolled past No. 14 Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.

The Trojans (2-0) piled up 313 yards rushing and won for the 61st time in 67 games.

LSU 44, Middle Tennessee 0: Ryan Perrilloux threw for 298 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead No. 2 LSU to a victory over visiting Middle Tennessee.

Florida 59, Tennessee 20: Tim Tebow threw for 299 yards and 2 touchdowns, ran for 61 yards and 2 scores, and lifted No. 5 Florida to a romp over the 22nd-ranked Volunteers in Gainesville, Fla.

Tebow completed two passes underhand and another one falling down. He hit Riley Cooper and Cornelius Ingram with perfect throws in the end zone. And he ran over and around Tennessee defenders much of the day.

The defending national champion Gators (3-0, 1-0) extended their winning streak to 10 games.

Oklahoma 54, Utah State 3: Sam Bradford threw for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns in another efficient performance for No. 3 Oklahoma in a win over visiting Utah.

Malcolm Kelly caught his sixth and seventh touchdown passes of the season and Allen Patrick showed his sprained ankle has fully healed with a 69-yard TD sprint as the Sooners (3-0) piled it on again.

Texas 35, Central Florida 32: Colt McCoy threw 259 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Jamaal Charles scored on a 46-yard run to clinch No. 6 Texas' victory in the first game in UCF's new on-campus stadium.

Ryan Bailey kicked 5 field goals for Texas (3-0), which regrouped after squandering a 13-point lead to fall behind 24-23 early in the fourth quarter.

California 42, La. Tech 12: Lavelle Hawkins returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and Justin Forsett ran for 152 yards and 3 scores for No. 8 California (3-0) in a win over visiting Louisiana Tech.

Craig Stevens and Jahvid Best caught TD passes from Nate Longshore, who passed for 230 shaky yards as Cal comfortably finished its nonconference schedule with its ninth straight win at Memorial Stadium.
