A former Elgin city councilman is planning to run next fall against Kane County's auditor.
Tom Sandor, a local accountant who lost a bid for re-election to the Elgin City Council in April, said he intends to announce on Thursday his candidacy for the post.
The county auditor, William Keck, is responsible for maintaining audits of the county's operations and financial records.
Sandor, a Democrat, said his planned candidacy doesn't stem from any issues with Keck's tenure.
"I'm not dissatisfied with his job," Sandor said. "I just believe there needs to be a change. I would bring a different perspective to the job."
Sandor cites his legislative experience, as well as his background as an accountant, as two key strengths he would bring to the post. He's approached Kane County's Democratic Central Committee for help in running in the largely Republican community.
Since losing his re-election bid in April, Sandor said he has focused on his accounting business and become involved as treasurer in his local American Legion Post.
Sandor plans to announce his candidacy at the post, 820 N. Liberty St., Elgin.
